Natural catastrophes and successive economic crises in Haiti, pushed thousands of their citizens to emigrate to other countries in South America. However, the reinforcement on immigration laws, as well as economic and labor conditions in host countries such as Brazil and Ecuador, caused the migration of some 100,000 people to the United States in 2016. The cities of Baja California received the diaspora and for many, it became their new home.
